exclusive five questions

1 -- Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 -- I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 -- You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 -- You'll include this explanation.
5 -- You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed

And here are http://www.livejournal.com/users/vlvtjones/ five questions

1. Name the era/time period that you think you should have lived through, and why.
I would have liked to have lived with the Jetson's. I love the furniture, the clothes and the vehicles. Everything was so efficient and streamlined. I also liked the idea of being able to move around quickly.

2. Who in our society embodies the good in humankind? The evil in humankind?
I really admire Jimmy Carter. I envy his notorious ability to promote peace and goodwill internationally.
Evil...hmmmm. Too many to name. I really despise any religion or culture that finds it acceptable to kill, maim and torture children.

3. What is the single craziest thing you have done?
I think the most recent "crazy" thing was climbing up the rocks and over the steep, sandy, slippery slope to Little Beach in Maui. I got a great picture of Mike....the one on the fridge.
Participating in the Tom of Finland Erotic Art show in NYC runs a close second. My artwork was the only female subject matter among hordes of male gender homoerotic artwork. Images of penis' of every size, shape and color....doing some unimaginable things were displayed about me.
I think the Maui adventure was more "crazy"....I could have killed myself!

4. Honestly, which one of your kids do you like better? And don't give me any of this, "I love them both the same" crap.
I do love both my kids and I truly like them too. They need ME differently, always have. However, when I have a personal problem I can always rely on Rose to help me view the issue in a more abstract way, while Mikey patiently finds ways to explain his solution in terms he knows I will understand.
Sorry, can't do the "Sophie's Choice" thing at all. Maybe if I had three or more kids I could.

5. Sum up your personal philosophy in a song lyric.
I have two. "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" and "Understanding is the best thing in the world...."

1. Are you still smoking! Why?

Mom, I'm smoking now. Because I love to smoke. It's my second favorite addiction, want to take a guess at the first? Okay, it's caffeine. Give me coffee or give me death.

2. Where do your clothing design ideas come from? What single fabric was your all time favorite?

Most often, I'll be in a fabric store and look at some piece of fabric and go, "That would make the coolest..."

I remember a lot of stuff--from a fashion show I saw on the style network to whatever Bette Davis wore in that one scene in...whatever movie it was. I take those and then mix them up to find something else. I also like combing vintage stores for their stuff.

My favorite fabric was this really heavy metallic silver rayon fabric--I bought, like, 9 yards of it from the store. It became: a skirt, the backside of a tank top/shell, a scarf, a pair of pants. The scarf is the only thing that I still have.

3. Was there a book/novel that changed your life forever?

Still Life with Woodpecker, by Tom Robbins. Everything solidified after that. It could be the most perfect novel in the world. The mastery of language, entertainment level of the story, and personal connection--redheads, spirituality, true love...makes me all squishy inside. I go back and read it every time I'm on a plane.

4. What is your solution for global warming?

Throw away your car. Seriously, throw it away, and figure out another way to get to where you want to go. That's step number 1.

5. What will be your firstborn child's name?

I am not giving birth to any children. But my adopted son's name would be Mark Allen. It's a family joke. My adopted daughter would be named Dorothy Parker, after Dorothy Parker.

Yay! It's a date!

When you decide to come up to Boston, I have some places that I keep in my back pocket as well--they sell remnants from clothing manufacturers/designers, so it's nice, high quality fabric for very cheap money.

Now I have to get back to my knitting--I'm trying to figure out how to do a poncho with this funky yarn that looks like poodle. We'll see how it goes.

The secret to working with that yarn is BIG needles(I use crochet) and MUTLIple yarns. Multi yarns are easier to work with AND give you the greatest color combinations!
