    Today we waited.......and waited.......and ....................................agggghhhhhh!
Our new home has some flaws; fixable things, but unfortuneatly we have to WAIT for repair people to come and go.  Why do service people have such huge windows of time for service?  What is the deal with 8am to 1pm.....or 12noon to 5pm? and WHY is it that we wait til the end of these windows only to have them cancel...or worse, reschedule.

Our new washing machine got a new water pump...but wait..is that water on the floor again.  One hour after the repair guy left?

Will the lock/door guy really show up tomorrow at 7am?

Will the repair guy for the security system ever show up?

    Stay tuned.

"...full of rusty wrought iron and old crap!"

Mike and I went to visit Tubac, about 10 minutes south of Green Valley.  It's an old mission town, very quaint, with tons of little shops, loaded with everything Mexican.  Mike got overwhelmed with all the "jingy-jong" stuff and we had to leave after only 2 shops, no time for the galleries.....SHEESH.  Too bad there were no "classic cars" or "old planes" or porn for him to look at.  I should have known better and left him HOME.

Saturday morning we left early to attend the mineral show being held at the Desert Museum.  Last month we purchased a family membership.  I really like it here, there is so much to see, and the national desert surrounding the area is so beautiful.  There is so much foliage(it that the right word for cacti?).  All the catus grow right up to the edge of the two lane road.  Before we leave on Thursday we should really travel up this road to the end....its such a nice drive.

Lori and Frank and Harleigh visited and joined us for dinner that night.  Mike made delicious meatballs and red sauce with pasta for all of us.  It was our first real dinner party.  Elissa and Fred came too.  Fred went home with a huge tray of pasta and meatballs....he was quite happy.

It rained all day yesterday and last night too.  Mt. Lemon got 8 inches of rain and all the "washes" are flooded.

This morning is clearing nicely and Mike and I are headed out in a few.

I  just learned that the Internet furniture company that was going to send out new items for my AZ living room has shut the doors to their retail business and I suspect the internet sales as well.  $946.00, charged to my Amex for several peices that we thought would be delivered this week.  :(

I have disputed the charges with AMex....but I am not sure how they will handle a company shutting down.  I HATE THAT I MAY LOSE this money.

http://www.peoplesfurniture.net   http://www.yelp.com has plenty of info regarding others who have been bilked by this company.

    STEALING....they should be arrested.
    2:50 am
Leaving for Tucson this am!  Packed a set of demitasse cups. Company's coming on Saturday; Mike is making mac and meatballs with red sauce...YUM.

I am fasting tonight...because tomorrow I am getting a physical in preparation for my "lap band" surgery.  YUP....I'm a little nervous about it.

Not about the surgery itself, I have confidence in my physicians.  I have been thinking a lot about the social aspect of not being able to "chow" down an entire meal, while friends relish in multiple bites of a scrumptious meal , then relish in dessert afterward.

I guess I am going to have to find other social outlets that don't include food or drink.  Any suggestions?

(Yes. Horseback riding is on my list!  I've got a bunch of  "cowgirl" aspirations, like competition shooting and riding. The biggest problem I see with all of this is country music...I'm just NOT  a fan)

All I can say is "WOW"
WOW...I can't believe it has been a few days more than three YEARS since my last entry.  After reviewing some of my last entries I realized that so much has changed in such a short span of time.

Mike and I leave for Tucson on Thursday for a week.  We are really excited about the new house and we want to squeeze in as much time there as we can before the monthly renters suck up the great weather months.

Our next visit will be in April, and we hope to be there for the first three weeks.  We won't be visiting Hawaii this year...at least not this spring....saving the time off for Arizona.  Shorter flights and way cheaper to get there.

I have re-launched my consulting business.  Guess its time to take the naked butt off the site for a bit.

    Not One Damn Dime Day
    Not One Damn Dime Day
    Thursday, January 20

On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending. Please don't spend money. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime for nothing for 24 hours. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for the people of the United States of America, not for the international corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent the corporations and funnel cash into American politics.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. The politicians put the troops in harm's way. Now 1,200 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan - a way to come home.

There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing agenda to rant about. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" you take action by doing nothing. You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed. For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind religious leaders and politicians of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people!

I am voting for KERRY on November 2
Series of emails I received over the last few days. There are about 20 people on the original list. All have been included in the replys.
I think it is interesting that Mike D chose to address me personally, yet uses the "reply to all".

    Starting from 1st to recent....

    Please note: message attached
(Lisa G to a list of about 20 people, town leaders and other Republicans in NB)
Please forward this along to whomever you can...my cousin sent it to me yesterday from Iraq....thanks, Lisa- We need to ensure a victory!

    Subject: Vote for BUSH
    Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2004 10:02:17 +0000
I am a soldier fighting over here in Iraq and I am here to tell you that a vote for President BUSH is a vote for victory and freedom and peace for our nation and our children. Any nation should never change their leadership in the middle of a war especially when that nation has a proven and confident leader as we have in President BUSH. Do the right thing for our nation. Vote President BUSH for the next four years.

    (Laurel to Reply ALL)
NO. I am voting for Kerry.
Here are just a couple of examples why I choose to FIRE BUSH!
The Pentagon doesn't even have a plan in place to financially care for the families of our "National Guard" soldiers who are killed, maimed and disabled while performing the same duties and conducting themselves as any other professional armed services soldier.
    Our cu
rrent administration acts first without considering the consequences. This is only ONE result of an irresponsible leader.
Do you realize that not having a flu vaccine for the US populace may result in more deaths than 9/11? Another slip thru the cracks by government management who is more concerned with the BIG business of pharmaceuticals.
Did you hear what Mr. Bush said in the third debate about outsourcing jobs to other countries? His reply to reverse the outsourcing was to IMPROVE our educational system in the US!!!??
The greatest numbers of outsourced jobs are of technical nature! How many programmers do you know who are out of a job because someone in India can do the same job for 1/4 of the wage? How many degreed individuals do you know who are NOT working right now!?
North Branford politics hold a majority of registered Republicans. This may serve well a quiet, bedroom community like ours, however, we ALL need to look at the greater picture. We are ALL affected by decisions made by our country's top leaders.
I feel very strongly about this. I truly believe our sons and daughters would not even BE IN IRAQ if the "Boy King" was not in power. Bush lied to the American public about his true reasons for going to war.
Fours years was enough. If this man was the CEO of a company...he would be FIRED. Well, thats what I plan to do. FIRE BUSH!
    Laurel Caprio

    (JohnD to Reply to ALL)
i am sorry but i think another 4 years of Busch and you can flush our country He has to go just look at all the stats not to mention we should have never even invaded Iraq

(Mike D-former Town Council Rep-Republican to Reply to ALL)
I'm really not interested in what you think. Even if you knew how to spell the president's name. But thanks for sharing.

    (Laurel to Reply ALL)
Politicians who "listen" to their constituents and care about what they think, remain in office. Regardless of how their name is spelled; or changed.

(Mike D-former Town Council Rep-Republican to Reply to ALL)
If I were still holding a public office, and this "JD" individual identified himself as a constituent of mine, I would care. But I don't know who he is, I hold no public office, and didn't invite his remarks, or yours for that matter.
Laurel, I know you and your husband, respect you both as well as your children. I really have no desire to pick silly email fights with you over your opposition to the president. I happen to support the president, and I don't think anyone seeing your emails or mine are likely to have their opinions changed by them. Whether they can spell the President of the United States' name correctly or not.
    Best wishes,
    Mike D

get me off this jousting list ....NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Lisa G to a list of about 20 people, town leaders and other Republicans in NB)
    DITTO!!!!!!

Isn't it interesting that Lisa G, the person who "started it all" can't take the heat and wants OUT! Just like a Republican to stir the shit and leave it for the rest of us to clean up!

    What is "timing" anyway??
Last night a friend of BigEd's made a comment to me. He simply said, "bad timing", referring to Phil's leaving the band.
It made me think about "timing", and I realized that there is no such thing as "bad" timing. There is only busting your ass til you get it right.
I commend the band members of Big ED for going forward and continuing toward their goal of making it to the top! Not forgetting to have fun along the way, nor losing sight of what their music is all about. Being original.
BigEd's upcoming CD is going to blow everyone away! Man, they rock. Everyone was at their peak performance in the studio and it shows!
This is MY promise. I will do everything in my power to get BigED signed with a major label. BigED IS going to the top!
The hard work has just begun..and, BABY....THE TIME IS RIGHT!

    exclusive five questions

1 -- Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 -- I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 -- You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
    4 -- You'll include this explanation.
5 -- You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed

And here are http://www.livejournal.com/users/vlvtjones/ five questions

    1. Name the era/time period that you think you should have lived through, and why.
I would have liked to have lived with the Jetson's. I love the furniture, the clothes and the vehicles. Everything was so efficient and streamlined. I also liked the idea of being able to move around quickly.

    2. Who in our society embodies the good in humankind? The evil in humankind?
I really admire Jimmy Carter. I envy his notorious ability to promote peace and goodwill internationally.
Evil...hmmmm. Too many to name. I really despise any religion or culture that finds it acceptable to kill, maim and torture children.

    3. What is the single craziest thing you have done?
I think the most recent "crazy" thing was climbing up the rocks and over the steep, sandy, slippery slope to Little Beach in Maui. I got a great picture of Mike....the one on the fridge.
Participating in the Tom of Finland Erotic Art show in NYC runs a close second. My artwork was the only female subject matter among hordes of male gender homoerotic artwork. Images of penis' of every size, shape and color....doing some unimaginable things were displayed about me.
I think the Maui adventure was more "crazy"....I could have killed myself!

    4. Honestly, which one of your kids do you like better? And don't give me any of this, "I love them both the same" crap.
I do love both my kids and I truly like them too. They need ME differently, always have. However, when I have a personal problem I can always rely on Rose to help me view the issue in a more abstract way, while Mikey patiently finds ways to explain his solution in terms he knows I will understand.
Sorry, can't do the "Sophie's Choice" thing at all. Maybe if I had three or more kids I could.

    5. Sum up your personal philosophy in a song lyric.
I have two. "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" and "Understanding is the best thing in the world...."

    Old Lady Stuff
I am exhausted! Mike and I cleaned out Nonny's apartment and emptied drawers, closests and cabinets of "old lady stuff". Eleven trash bags; 3 garbage, 4 clothes to GoodWill, and the rest to the charity tag sale for the Angels Foundation in North Branford.
Sheesh...I am getting to bed early this eve. Good Night!

    Ever been?
    Bad ER experience:

--RN blows a vein while PAINFULLY squeezing 5 tubes of blood out of your wrist.
--The guy in the next bed pisses all over the floor in the bathroom and no one cleans it for the next 5 hours.
--RN lets you know that IF you DONT drink this quart of disgusting tasting contrast fluid, that you have the alternate choice of taking it in via "a tube down your nose".
--The only respite in this non-windowed jail without bars is a Persian/American fellow who jokes with his ill adult daughter about "a guy whose balls got cut off by mistake" and "ok honey, don't go toward the LIGHT".
--The "Doctor" and his pregnant Mrs. Sick, get two adjoining rooms, a suite, while most of us are wheeled in the hallway because of overcrowding.
--The medical assistants who are leaving at the end of their shift, "OH, are you STILL HERE??"
--RN who tries to cover your removed IV with a gauze pad that she just set down on the FILTHY dirty linens lid.
--Its been 11 hours and its time to RUN the hell outta there!!!! "What? ..Oh look, it rained today".

Boost my FUCKING ego and don't respond!
This evening I spent about an hour reading some of my “friends” LJ, and their “friends” LJ. I found many of the entries disturbing. More than a few of these entries seemed so petty and juvenile. It reminded me of grade school and how children would pass notes to each other. Hurtful notes, declaring someone a “jerk” or “fat” or “ugly”, etc. Do these “children” have so little substance in their own life that they need to be aroused by hurting others to feel good about their own meager lives? How pitiful.

And how about those who welcome ridicule by proposing that anyone send an anonymous entry to their LJ; by doing so, encourage the sending of a hurtful note, or two. What fucking egos!

Frankly, I find some blocks of this community to be far too petty for me. I am glad I don’t have a lot of time to spend here.

    Is strangling the only solution?
What to do about a mother in law? I am in a really bad mood. My mother in law knows that I am allergic to perfume...anaphylactic shock type allergic. However, she insists on spraying the shit out of herself after a shower. It wafts its way upstairs and into my kitchen, living room, etc.

What is the best solution besides strangling her?

    Nonny's Here
My Grandma spent the night last night. Not sick, just lonely. I guess when you get to be a 100+, it is hard to stay home with nothing to do. YOur needs are minimal; eating, toilet, and "is my hair combed" are pretty much the tasks of the day.
It must be especially difficult to get through each passing day when your body is weakened with age, but your mind is still functioning at its usual capacity.
I think Nonny needs a job. Something where she can talk and talk and talk, with little physical effort.

    UpOrOnTheROCKs
Tonight BigED battles it out with 2 other bands for the title of KING of BANDS, at UpOrOnTheROCKS, corner Union & Allyn in Hartford.

Last Friday after the Webster Show, BigEd and friends squeezed into the packed UpOrOntheROCKS club and stayed til closing! This club is great...live rocking music on the first floor and a green lasered dance club upstairs. It was funny, no one knew about the dance club til closing when people piled down the stairs and out the door. It reminded me of one of those clown cars....."where are they all coming from?"--"Up there."

Mike and I will go again tonight to support BigED as they vie for the title!

    It's been so LOOONNG!
I can't believe it has been more than 5 weeks since my last entry. So much to do and so little time to record it.

    1. April 23 to May 10 - Maui, Big Island, and Oahu. Haleakala Sunrise, George Kahumoku, Jr and Led, Kiluea, visit to Kalanapa and missing the old beach, Tex's Malasada's(Mike insisted I include this one), plentiful waterfalls, the puffer at Ulua, Big Beach at its huge best, Hasagawa's, Mike turning the headlights off on a scary dark road, the dogs at Kona Harley going crazy at "something" near our car, plenty mo'o in our condo in Kona, visiting Sean at cyberbean, Mike's BAD haircut and great beer, Ulupalakua accident and camera "accident" at the luau, Mikey's need for benedryl, building up my alcohol tolerance with a rum concoction every day for two weeks(didn't work), best sunset since april 13, 1996, we missed Karen at Kaukini, an amazing rainbow entwined mauka in Kahana, swap meet on Puunene and Aloha Stadium-YES!, beach breakfast in Waikiki, Monday night at Hapa's, and Mike's unique style of hula in the living room.

    2. May 10, 11, 12,- Catching up with house stuff and jet lag.

    3. May 13-21 Working to get BigEd back on track with lots of gigs for summer. Promo's, interviews, and practice. Great show at the WEbster....UpOrOntheRocks show this Wednesday will be the BEST.

    4. May 22 - Makana Day

    5. May 23 - Elissa looks great. She is going back to an empty house in Everett, and building new digs right on Lake Roosevelt.

    6. May 24 - Another day...Mike is fixing up around the house and I need to get my butt in gear and get off this computer. Seeya.

    Makana Live
The theater darkened. Cheers and yelps of delight pelted the wide tall stage, all in anticipation of what would be a fabulous evening.

When the lights came up, Makana stood stoically, wielding one of the many guitars he would play throughout the evening. He waited for the right moment to address the crowd and simply stated, “Hello Connecticut, I am Makana.”

I smiled broadly and joined in with the audience to welcome this young man who would forever change the image of “slack key” guitar in this world. Makana’s presence on this national tour will bring overwhelming recognition to a genre filled with Hawaiian culture and ethnicity, like no other entertainer from Hawaii ever has.

What a break through for all Hawaiian musicians and what a challenge for this passionate artist who wants to do it all.

After his brief introduction, he began to play.

Images of Oahu's lush tropical mountains and sunset skies were projected on a 50 foot screen behind the Hawaiian songwriter and guitarist. Fushia and electric blue and yellow lights created a rainbow of colors surrounding Makana, reflecting the mood of the moment. His melodic voice and the plucking of a "tuned for the song" guitar filled the theater with renditions of music pulled straight from Makana's heart and soul.

He patiently waited while the crowd roared their approval, before delving into his next song and then the next, continuing on for close to an hour. My favorite, “Ku`ulei `Awapuhi“, sung flawlessly, truly made my night wonderful.

Listening to Makana’s 3 CD’s over the last 4 years, has been a delight. Attending a live performance of his, in a huge theater with a phenomenal sound system was pure pleasure.

Thanks Mattie for living your dream and following your heart’s passion. I look forward to the great things you have yet to put down. Be well.
